guitar chords chart basic

Heelp?! What do the circles on top of the guitar chords mean?

It means that string should be played open. A string played open is not held down in any fret.

In some chord charts there are X's and semi circles.. this is what they're for..

Xes are the strings that should not be played.. You can either mute them with your fingers or not strum them at all.

On your chord chart they're are no x's but instead there is nothing.. the stings you see no circle above or dot on the string are assumed to be X's and should NOT be played.
(D,Dm,D7,F,A,Am,A7 all are chords that have dead strings in them)

Your chart features no barre chords but this is something to look for when you do get down that road.

The semi circle from one number or string to the next indicates that you should barre those strings. ( barring strings is when you hold down more than one string with one finger.)
