Over the years I've realized one thing. Everyone, and I mean everyone has a basic desire to learn music of some sort! Having played guitar for several years, I'm always interested to find out how a 'non musician' sees music, so every time I'm out and I meet new people I often inquire if they play an instrument, and much more often I ask "if you could study any musical instrument on the planet, what one would it be and why?" the reply you may have suspected it's relatively usual.

I do believe when most people tell me that they want to learn an instrument, and I also believe them when they reluctantly disclose that they merely are unable to spare the time needed to deal with learning an instrument, not to mention investing in one.
The guitar is subsequently probably the most common musical instrument chosen by people. How come?
After devoting some time thinking about it I came to a number of conclusions. A big reason is practicality!
The purchase of a guitar is definitely cheaper than investing in a drum kit or a piano as well as being easier to take with you. It is also easier to cover many styles of music with a guitar. It is possible to play ballads just as easily as you can play rock anthems. The guitar's got it all!
Naturally, people have different aspirations in regards to what they want to accomplish when they learn an instrument,but the majority of people are just pleased to learn a few chords and methods to allow them to play their favorite tunes, and just fool around with the acoustic guitar after work. This brings me to my personal favorite reason why people enjoy playing guitar - it's therapeutic.
Some people realize this, and many people smile in agreement when I share this thought with them. Coming home from work or school and playing a few well-known chords while your brother/sister/mate/uncle/evil-monkey-in-the-closet is busy searching the lyrics on their phone or laptop, is actually relaxing and enjoyable.
So embrace the desire, act on it, make music...
